What the work looks like in Manotick
Manotick lots are large, and most outside the village core run on a private well and septic system. Concrete removal means loaded trucks crossing the lawn, so the first job at the site visit is finding the septic tank, the bed and the well head and planning a route that stays off all three, even if it means a longer carry.
Many jobs here follow an outbuilding coming down: the old garage or shed is gone and its slab is in the way of a new building or a garden. Near the Rideau, ground work close to the shoreline can need Rideau Valley Conservation Authority approval, so riverfront owners confirm that before we book.
The village core around Watson’s Mill has some of the oldest houses in the south end, and many properties outside the core are on private wells and septic systems. More about Manotick

Before work starts in Manotick
Breaking out a patio, walkway, slab or driveway does not usually need a demolition permit, but it does need Ontario One Call locates before any ground work. We request them, and they take about five business days. Private lines, such as a feed to a garage, are not located by One Call, so tell us where they run.
Near the Rideau River, check with the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority before taking down any structure close to the shoreline or floodplain. Rural lots need the same City demolition permit and utility clearances as urban ones.
Any building from before 1990 gets a hazardous materials survey first. If it finds asbestos or other designated substances, abatement is referred to licensed specialists, and our crew starts after the clearance letter.
Disposal
Torn out. Hauled out.
Every job ends ready for the next trade. Here is where the debris goes.
Clean concrete, brick and asphalt are kept separate from soil and garbage so they can go to aggregate recycling, where they are crushed for reuse. Rebar and mesh are cut out for scrap.
On larger jobs, a roll-off bin from a licensed bin company sits on your property, and the bin company hauls it away and handles the tipping at its own facility.
On smaller jobs our crew loads our own trucks and hauls to the Tomlinson Waste Recovery Centre at 106 Westhunt Drive in Carp, which sorts mixed construction and demolition debris for recycling and accepts commercial loads.
Manotick is our home base. Bins sit on the driveway well clear of the septic bed, and on smaller jobs debris rides back on our trucks the same day.

Asbestos & permits
We don’t touch asbestos. That’s the point.
Some demolition companies will tell you they do it all. We do the demolition, and we make sure the steps before it happen in the right order, by the right people: survey first, licensed abatement, then us.
Read the asbestos and permit FAQ- Built before 1990? Ontario law puts the onus on the owner to identify designated substances before a contract is signed. That means a designated-substances survey.
- Survey finds asbestos? A licensed abatement contractor removes it, and you get a clearance letter.
- Utilities and permit. Gas, hydro, water and sewer disconnected where needed. Enbridge alone takes about 44 days, so it gets requested first.
- Then we demolish. No change orders for surprise asbestos, no stop-work orders, no crew exposed.
FAQ
Concrete & asphalt removal in Manotick: questions
Will the trucks damage my septic bed?
Not if the route is planned. We mark the tank and bed at the site visit and keep loaded trucks off them, carrying further by hand or barrow where needed.
My patio is near the river. Do I need approval?
Possibly. Work close to the Rideau shoreline or floodplain can fall under Rideau Valley Conservation Authority regulations. Check with the RVCA first, and we set the date around their answer.
What happens to the broken concrete?
Clean concrete goes to aggregate recycling, where it is crushed for reuse. Rebar and mesh are cut out and go to scrap.
